Positive Behavior Interventions & Supports (PBIS) is a decision-making framework that guides selection, integration, and implementation of the best evidence-based behavioral practices for improving important academic and behavioral outcomes for all students.

It is a multi-tiered system of support (MTSS) developed to promote positive, safe, and supportive school climates for ALL students by clearly identifying positive behavioral expectations and explicitly teaching the desired behaviors to students.  PBIS is NOT a curriculum, intervention, or practice.  It is a three-tiered model that focuses heavily on school-wide core features (Tier I).

Tier I - Behavior supports for all students

  • School wide expectations taught to all students
  • Incentives for students exhibiting expectations
  • Data-informed decision-making on school systems

Tier II - Behavior supports for small group of students

Data-driven decision-making for student interventions
  • Check-in, Check-out
  • Strong Kids
  • Social groups

Tier III - Behavior supports for individual student plans

Data-driven, Intensive, individualized interventions for students
  • Wrap-around services
  • Prevent, Teach, Reinforce problem-solving
