The Transportation Department of Twin Rivers Unified School District (TRUSD) received the 2018 Clean Air Award for Sustainability, awarded by Breathe California Sacramento Region.
Breathe California Sacramento Region recognized the Transportation Department for actively affecting positive change in air quality, efforts in daily practices and sustainability leadership.
Also mentioned, the recent success of the deployment of the largest fleet of electric school buses in the U.S. improved air quality and the positive contribution to society.
Breathe California is one of the oldest and most active nonprofit agencies in the Sacramento area. In 1917 the Sacramento Society for the Prevention and Cure of Tuberculosis was established and performed community awareness by working with families and children. With the dramatic decrease in incidents and the new knowledge of lung disease, the focus of the organization changed. In the 1960’s and early ‘70s the direction was changed as well as the name, today Breathe California Sacramento Region continues its mission dedicated to healthy air and preventing lung and other air-pollution related diseases by partnering with youth, advocating public policy, supporting air pollution research and educating the public.
